After work today, I had the novel (at least to me) experience of flat hunting in Hong Kong. Tom had already checked out some flats in Grand Garden, Repulse Bay and wanted me to see them. It's a pretty nice place---there is quite a bit of land there and the flats are a decent (though not large) size. We looked at three different flats. Two were possibilities and one was a definite no. (We don't want to spend a ton of money renovating and would prefer to find a flat that did not need extensive work.) However one flat had the traditional teak parquet floors and the other one had the floor redone with light colored "wood" (I think it was laminate of some sort). I much prefer the traditional flooring but the owner of that flat keeps increasing the price.
We then headed down to Stanley and were quite surprised with the flat we viewed. The building had nothing in terms of facilities. And the flat did need some work (definitely needed a new kitchen and the bathrooms needed some updating). But, wow! It was spacious compared to the other flats and it felt like a home to me. If we could negotiate on the price a bit, I believe we would go for it.
Lastly, we looked at two flats in Pacific View. Incredible views! Especially from the master bedrooms. Great facilities. But out of our price range. And it felt like a hotel to me.
We'll see....
Work is going well, by the way. Amazing group of new teachers but I would like to "get on with it". The next two days are training for just the middle school group. And then next week, returning teachers will be back. Can't wait for that as I will then have a much better idea of the nitty, gritty.
