In my Tech Innovations course, we are currently discussing copyright and how it pertains to teachers and students. Copyright is a very complex topic and some parts of the concept are quite outdated with regards to Web 2.0 applications.
One of our required readings/videos was this one featuring Larry Lessig. I inwardly groaned when I saw the run time and planned on multi-tasking. That went right out the window once I began listening--this is an excellent presentation.
We then learned about Creative Commons.
"creative commons. get creative. it's easy when you skip the intermediaries."
After learning more about copyright and Creative Commons, I downloaded a free CC license and embedded it on my sidebar. I also changed the license on my Flickr photos to allow others to use my work for non-commercial purposes. (This is especially helpful for students who need images to use in their work.) I hope you will also consider using Creative Commons licenses for your work.
