We're smokin'! We played the Macau Mystiks tonight. Wow, what a difference a day makes. Our team came out strong. I could tell just from warm ups that we were in the zone tonight. The passing was outstanding. Everyone gave it their all and had fun. In the first few minutes, the WIHO women scored three goals. Jenny Marusiak, the American goalie for the Macau team, had a tough first period but came back during the second and third.
WIHO's Annette Kerr had an incredible goal. She skated the puck up from the defensive zone, powered up, skated around various Macau players and then scored with a fantastic shot. Brilliant! The entire team kept it up and we won 8-0. Macau's Marusiak made some excellent saves including several beautiful butterflies. She did not get a lot of help from her defense and we were passing extremely well and keeping in position. Our wings gained more experience covering for the d in the offensive zone.
Once again, Japan appears to be the team to beat. A couple of WIHO players caught part of the Japan/Manila game. Japan (six skaters and a goalie) dominated the game and won 9-1. I'm not sure if there will be additional players arriving from Japan or not. We're looking forward to playing them on Friday evening.
But first things first. We play the Malaysia Slayers at 4:30pm on Thursday. I caught most of the Malaysia/Macau game earlier today. The Malaysia teams appears to be fairly physical and #6 is their strongest forward. James and Claire will be coming to the rink to watch which should be fun.
