Today both Claire & James participated in a very long (and very HOT) Sports Day at the Causeway Bay Sports Ground. Both kids seemed to be enjoying themselves at times but James spent a lot of time wandering around. He liked it best when we went down the other end of the field to watch Claire. He joined in with the big kids a few times. Their activities were way less structured. This event would be much improved IF it only lasted for an hour. I asked Claire tonight if she would rather have had normal class or Sports Day. She said, "I would prefer normal class if we could run one race and then get a medal". Interesting. Both Claire & James did like having medals and wore them most of the afternoon. I was surprised that James kept his on. Wearing anything around his neck is a recent development. (Over the half-term break, he and Claire broke out the Mardi Gras beads. He looked as if he had been very popular with the people throwing the beads. Claire went through that stage when she was two.)
In other news, Tom's home late tonight (or early tomorrow morning depending on your point of view---that reminds me of the Jimmy Buffett lyric "there's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning") after being away for 16 days. I didn't mention his return to the kids this time. They both went to sleep much easier. They can be happily surprised in the morning although Claire will probably wonder why I moved her back to her own bed during the night.
